The following is a list of vegan-friendly supplements available in the UK. All supplements vary in vitamin and mineral content, ingredients, price and eco-friendliness. Therefore, it is strongly advised to speak with your doctor, midwife, or dietitian, and select a product which is best suited to your personal needs, as well as confirming an appropriate dose.

Unfortunately, the free multi-vitamin available through the NHS ‘Healthy Start Scheme’ is not suitable for vegans. However, if you are eligible for the scheme you can apply to receive a card to contribute towards fruit and vegetables. For more information go to: www.healthystart.nhs.uk

Plant-Based Pregnancy Supplement Recommendations (Daily):
Folic Acid: 400mcg
Vitamin D3:
10-25mcg
Vitamin B12:
25-100mcg**
Iodine:
150mcg ***

Omega-3 DHA & EPA: 400-500mg

OR a bi-weekly B12 dose of 1000mcg twice a week**
with an additional 50mcg of iodine to be achieved through diet***

Prenatal multivitamins may not contain, or contain enough of the above key micronutrients. In these cases, the levels will need to be made up via a well planned diet or an additional supplement.
